Josie is proud of her new straw hat until a seagull lifts it off her head at the beach. She thinks it is annoying when she has to follow the bird over the sand dunes. She is quite amazed when she slogs through a forest and arrives at a ghost town that she has never heard about on the other side of the peninsula. In her efforts to get a ride back home she is shocked to run into a skeleton dressed in a wedding gown, a boy who seems to disappear before her very eyes, and a stained glass figure in the church that seems to want to rush out at her. Josie knows that she’s really in trouble when she doesn’t get home by dark. She hears galloping hoof beats coming after her. She runs down the beach, but can anyone escape the rider atop the infamous horse, Phantom of the Apocalypse?
