As spiritual beings, must we first feed our souls or give that attention to our bodies? What are the consequences of unconditional love? Feasting with the Deacon answers these questions in no uncertain terms through the moving story of Deacon Silas ben Gaddiel. Set in the first century A.D., Barrington's story follows Silas and his family through conflicts among early Christians, the joys to be taken in the simple pleasure of sharing a meal, and the difficult struggles of life from survival to the complexities of Roman rule under the infamous Nero.
Barrington succeeds at telling a story that, while nominally Christian, is nondenominational, even universal, and yet intensely personal as well. Portrayed with elegance and intuition, the philosophy of Silas, the "Feeding Deacon," offers an accessible look into early Christian doctrine and how it can be applied to the many questions of life.
Barry Barrington, who broke in book-length fiction with The New Vazimbans, appears in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, American Education, America, and in the World. A PhD in biochemistry who has worked for the government, operated a sandhill farm, and served in the Homefront of World War II, Barrington continues his successful transition to the arts with this, his second novel. He lives in a conservation community in Grayslake, Illinois, with the wife Sharyn and their muse, FionaCat.
