ABOUT THE BOOK

About the Vikas-WBUT Students’ Series: Books in this series have been specially designed to meet the requirements of a large spectrum of engineering students of WBUT—those who find learning the concepts difficult and want to study through solved examples, and those who wish to study the traditional way. A large number of solved examples are the backbone of this series and are aimed at instilling confidence in the students to take on the examinations.
Environment and Ecology has been written for the first year Engineering students but can also be used by students of B.Tech/BCA/MCA/BBA/MBA courses. It starts with the basic concepts of ecology and concerns on environment but goes on to show how dwindling resources due to the spiraling rate of population growth and the requirements of the human beings, clearance of forests and industrial effluents poisoning the environment, have resulted in the depletion of ozone layer, creation of greenhouse effect, acid rain and smog. The book equips engineering and management students by showing how technology can be used to tackle these problems.

About The Author

Prof G K Dasmohapatra is Ph.D. (Science) from Jadavpur University. He has worked as post-doctoral fellow in Polymer Institute, Czechoslovakia and at Universitat Siegen, West Germany and also at Central Gloss and Ceramic Research Institute for about 12 years, in various capacities. As post-doctoral fellow he worked on the synthesis and characterisation of polymers and synthesis of some stereoselective compounds in various zeolite supercages; as well as rare-earth doped glasses for their possible application in the field of laser and phosphor materials; and controlled release glass fertilizers for application in agriculture. His current research focus is on rare earth spectroscopy in highly viscous liquid media ond some natural products for their possible application as acid-base indicators. He has more than 30 publications in international journals and conferences, as well as has some patents and textbooks to his credit.
