NBA: Celtics tie series with Hawks

In Atlanta, Paul Pierce scored 36 points and the Celtics wiped out an 11-point second-half deficit even without the suspended Rajon Rondo, stunning the Hawks 87-80 to even their Eastern Conference playoff series at one game each.

In Chicago, Jrue Holiday scored 26 points, and the 76ers beat Chicago 109-92 to even their first-round series in the Bulls’ first game since Derrick Rose’s season-ending knee injury.

In Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant scored 38 points to lead the Lakers to a 104-100 victory over the Nuggets, taking a 2-0 series lead. Game 3 is Friday in Denver.

Gregg Popovich was selected coach of the year after leading the Spurs to 50 wins and the West’s top seed.

NFL: Ex-Giant Joseph faces forgery charges

Ex-Giant DT William Joseph is among eight people facing forgery and theft charges in a South Florida tax refund and identity theft scheme.

Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry is expected to miss three or four weeks with a strained right hamstring.
