'You're not worth it' – L'Oréal drops Baroness Greenfield
Baroness Greenfield has been replaced as the chairman of the judges of the Women in Science awards by Dame Athene Donald.

Baroness Greenfield, who withdrew her claim of sexual discrimination and unfair dismissal against the Royal Institution, has suffered a further blow.
Mandrake can disclose that the glamorous neuroscientist has been dropped as the chairman of the judges of the Women in Science awards. They are sponsored by L'Oréal, the cosmetics giant, whose slogan is "Because you're worth it". She had helped establish the awards in this country.
Katy Gandon, of L'Oréal, confirms that Susan Greenfield has been replaced by Dame Athene Donald, the physicist. She says of Dame Athene: "She is a big hitter in science. It helps our fresh new look." L'Oréal has also ended its partnership with the Royal Institution. The company will work with the Mayfair-based organisation's rival, the Royal Society, instead.
Broad church
Father Michael Seed, who helped to convert Tony Blair to Catholicism, marked his 25 years as a priest with a mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Mayfair.
Now the friar, who also directed Ann Widdecombe towards Rome, is to celebrate in a more unusual location. A party is being held in his honour at the Pigalle Club, the louche venue known for its burlesque shows.
"I've never seen it in action," he tells me. "My close friend is organising it and his best friend is the owner."
Grandma's pride
As women in the media take advantage of Miriam O'Reilly's ageism victory against the BBC, spare a thought for the feelings of the men d'un certain âge.
Tom Conti, 69, who starred in the film Shirley Valentine, says: "It is so funny, having been in the industry for so many years, because you go through a transition.
"At the beginning, women wait at the stage door and say, 'Can I touch your hair?' Then, you hear them say, 'Oh, my mum loves you so much.' I'm just waiting for the moment somebody says, 'Oh, Tom, my gran loves you so much.' I'm sure it is coming soon."

Sinead and John Kerr at the European Figure Skating Championships in January in Tallinn, Estonia. Ice dancing often requires partners to convey believable sizzle on ice.
Vancouver, British Columbia -- When Alexandra Zaretsky takes to the ice in Olympic ice-dancing competition Friday, she'll look deep into her partner's eyes as they skate the "Tango Romantica."
But not too deep. That's because her partner is her brother, 26-year-old Roman Zaretsky. "We try to find ways to kind of look through—or look a little up, or a little sideways," says Ms. Zaretsky. "Hey, you gotta act."
Olympics: Sibling Skaters 'Sizzle'
1:36
Some ice skating pairs will have to feign attraction more so than others -- at least, for those that are related. WSJ's Geoffrey Fowler talks with Kelsey Hubbard about four pairs of sibling ice skaters that have to "sizzle" on the ice.
They're not the only ice dancers in this particular pickle. Four of the 23 ice-dancing pairs competing at the Vancouver Games are brother and sister. And this year, they're all required to complete a compulsory portion of competition by doing the forbidden dance.
How do you tango with your sibling? "We get that question a lot," says Israeli Ms. Zaretsky—as do all of the siblings competing here.

Cathy Reed and Chris Reed from Japan perform during the Ice Dance compulsory dance event of the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships.
Ice dancing, arguably the most artistic of any Olympic sport, requires a certain believable sizzle on the ice in order to capture a medal. "The training is a sport, but the performance is an art," says Sinead Kerr, 31, of Great Britain, who is dancing with her brother John.
Ice dancing, which was added to the Games in 1976, blends elements of figure skating and ballroom dancing. Partners stick close together throughout the routine, doing spins as a team while holding hands. Ice dancers have to perform three times: a compulsory dance in which all the teams do the same moves and use the same music (this time, it's the "Tango Romantica"), a two-minute original dance to a set theme (this year it's folk/country), and a four-minute free dance of the team's choosing.
Ice dancers learn to become actors of sorts. "Our coach told us envision someone else's head is there," says Chris Reed, 20, who dances with his sister Cathy for Japan. "It's all an act."

Christina and William Beier perform during the free dance at the German Figure Skating Championships 2010.
Mr. Reed watches videos of his own performance, and uses mirrors to practices his moves and even his facial expressions. His tango look is "serious but endearing," says Ms. Reed, who is 22.
Mr. Kerr, 29, says that dancing with his sister means he is prevented from developing romantic themes in performance. (Their tango will be more like a fight between two people, he says.)
"On the ice, we don't think of each other as brother and sister," he adds.
Ruling out romance also forces them to be more creative, and act out different sorts of roles on the ice, he says. In 2008, they performed a routine dressed as space aliens. In the Vancouver Games, they are dancing one segment to Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere" with Ms. Kerr dressed as a truck driver and Mr. Kerr as a hitchhiker. They will be telling the story of a driver who picks up a rider and then the two swap stories about their many adventures.

Even nonsiblings can have a hard time learning to express sizzle all while spinning and lifting their partner off the ground at dizzying speeds.
"Sometimes you need to emote those kinds of feelings like you are in love with her," says American skater Evan Bates, who has been ice dancing with his partner Emily Samuelson—to whom he is not related—for 10 years. Yet "it is so hard to develop that when you are 10 and 11 years old, and you are grossed out by girls," says Mr. Bates.
All ice-dancing relationships are strange, say athletes, because they involve spending countless intense hours with the same person, while trying to maintain a professional partnership. Sharing a family bond can smooth over disagreements about music, practice or career path. It has been proved to work before: During the 1992 Games, the French brother and sister team Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay won silver.

Sibling ice dancing is more common than one might think. Noriko Reed, the mother of Chris and Cathy, says it wasn't her idea to pair her son and daughter. "It was just the luck of the ice dance coach that put them together," she said. A third Reed sibling, Allison, is also competing in ice dancing in Vancouver, for the Georgian team with Otar Japaridze.
Siblings can certainly fight. "Other couples also fight, but the way they do it is different," says German skater Christina Beier, 25, who competes with her brother William, 27. "We know exactly what you have to say if you want to hurt the other one."
After an injury, last season they even gave a try to dancing with new partners. "With others, it was harder," says Ms. Beier. "It is from nature that we move together. When we got back together, it was like we never split up."
For one dance in Vancouver, they will represent their own brother and sister relationship—starting with skating together as kids, then stretching to their breakup and reunion. "This is our story, so it is easier to tell," says Ms. Beier.

Another shot--this time a vertical comp--from last Sunday's sunset at El Matador. There are so many cool rocks at this beach--including a couple of big sea stacks and arches/sea caves (sort of sea caves)--it was my first outing here, and I really want to go back soon.

Well, shut my mouth.
Rapper 50 Cent has gone mum on his penny-stock pet project, H&H Imports, not sending a single tweet to his 3.8 million followers on the subject in the last 48 hours, during which time the Clearwater, Fla., company has seen its shares tumble 36 percent.
That's quite a turnaround from Monday when the rap star, aka Curtis Jackson, helped H&H to a 290 percent jump after using his Twitter account over last weekend to make bullish calls on the company.
Shares soared to 39 cents from 10 cents, but without the help of the 35-year-old celeb, H&H slipped 23 percent Tuesday and 17 percent yesterday -- to 25 cents a share.
"HNHI is the right investment for me it may or may not be right for u! Do ur homework," Jackson tweeted late Monday, his last word on the subject. Jackson owns both warrants and shares of H&H.
Jackson is a director of Sleek Audio, a headset maker that has a marketing deal with TV Goods, an H&H subsidiary, according to federal and state filings. H&H, owned by Kevin Harrington, has yet to turn a profit. Harrington declined to comment yesterday.

Huddersfield Town 2 Dover Athletic 0: match report
Read a full match report pf the FA Cup third round game between Huddersfield Town and Dover Athletic at the Galpharm Stadium on saturday Jan 8 2011.
By David McVay 9:08PM GMT 09 Jan 2011
Two football departures of a diametrically opposed nature prompted Martin Hayes to a philosophical mood at the Galpharm Stadium.
The Dover Athletic manager, a fine servant to Arsenal during his playing career two decades ago, had seen his side's valiant FA Cup exploits curtailed by Huddersfield Town, ending the ambitions of the lowest ranked team in the competition.
Dover's priority of promotion to the Conference remains intact, however, as does Hayes' own hope to manage further up the football ladder, an aspiration put in perspective by the rather more high profile exit of Roy Hodgson from Liverpool.
"Of course I'd love to prove myself at the higher level," said Hayes as the managerial merry-go-round welcomed back Kenny Dalglish's tiresome old face to the Anfield helm.
"But it's up to chairmen really. Do they gamble and give good, ambitious young managers a chance or just carry on appointing managers who have been sacked before.
"The fans want a big name but as a player, if you are given a few good gos and keep failing, you end up further down the scale. In management, it's different."
The 1500 travelling Dover fans had their day out but their Cup run effectively was over after early goals from Scott Arfield and Gary Roberts.
Despite a plethora of adverse comments recently, Huddersfield manager Lee Clark continued to pay homage to managerial glitterati by sporting a blue and white club scarf around his neck in the manner of Manchester City's Roberto Mancini.
The Italian has style...the Geordie hasn't. Before ridicule sets in Lee, time to lose the fashion accessory and to give the neck a good airing.qtdz
